We chose airway orthodontics for her health...
We came to Dr. Tanners office when our daughter was about 6 years old. She had some decay and through coming to the office we learned about airway orthodontics. Our daughter had been born with what one would call Sleep Apnea and so she would seemingly stop breathing in the night. We would sometimes wake her up. There were several books I had read and became very interested in this as a way to help our daughter. So we began an expander for her jaw and within a few days of wearing the expander she started to sleep through the night and her snoring ceased and any sign of Apnea had also ceased. It was quite remarkable and so now we are several months into it and are very pleased with the results and are looking forward to the end results coming down the line. We chose airway expansion orthodontics for her health and longevity and I think having straight teeth will be something that comes out of this as well but that was not our motive for going this route. If someone were considering orthodontics I would absolutely highly recommend this path versus a conventional path because having a constricted airway is quite challenging to ones health and having restful sleep healing sleep in the night is so important. Opening up the airway through the expansion of the jaw and developing the jaw is going to allow one to have this oxygenation throughout the night bringing in health throughout ones day and throughout ones life, whereas one might have a beautiful smile with conventional orthodontics but they might not have the jaw development that is so crucial to have.
